SENAs Key Activities
- SENA has shifted from a predominantly music education institution to an institution that will have a wider impact on the music sector, cultural industries and more specifically the copyright industries. We are in the process of expanding these roles but will retain the music education component as outlined below:
- Establishing and funding bursaries and/or other support for South Africans in connection with their studies of the arts and particularly music not only in South Africa, but also abroad;
- Commissioning the creation of new musical works by South African composers and/or lyricists;
- Helping to create and/or expand opportunities for South African composers to have their works performed;
- Giving financial support for the publication without a profit motive of musical works or works about music in both cases preferably works written by South Africans;
In general helping create, to foster and maintain an environment in which the public of South Africa may have a better understanding and appreciation of the value of music and of the rights of creative artists as well as their importance in the cultural and economic life of our muti-faceted South African society;
Giving financial and/or other support to
- Recognized academic and other institutions of good standing for the teaching of the arts, particularly music; and
- Art festivals, workshops, seminars and similar undertakings in the sphere of musical and the related arts organized by academic or other bodies of good standing for not profit purposes;
Such other ways as the SAMRO Board may add to this list from time to time
