Mechanical Rights Update
03 November 2006
Following our announcement of our intention to administer Mechanical Rights, SAMRO management team and staff have been hard at work to ensure that all the necessary elements are in place. We have made significant progress with all the critical requirements for a successful and efficient administration.
At the beginning of June this year SAMRO was unanimously, except for one abstention, admitted to the membership of BIEM, an international organisation of societies of mechanical rights. This paved the way for SAMRO to enter into bi-lateral agreements of reciprocal representation with other mechanical rights societies throughout the world. We have been encouraged by the response, which has clearly sent a message of confidence in SAMRO and its credentials to administer copyright in musical works.
Thank you to all our members for the encouragement and support that you have given us as we were going through the necessary preparations. We thus are pleased to inform you that we shall be arranging to meet with you in the next few weeks in order to ensure that all the necessary documentation is in place and also to address any matters you may wish to raise.
