KZN Music Imbizo 2010: 26-28 August (Royal Hotel - Durban)
KZN MUSIC IMBIZO is the province's premier music business exhibition/expo with a range of live events that compliment it. The Imbizo is an attempt to collect all industry stakeholders under one roof to breathe life into the KwaZulu-Natal music Industry. It is a platform to exhibit, network, share expertise and knowledge over three days whilst looking at ways to improve the KwaZulu-Natal music industry as a business. The Imbizo isdivided into four parts:
. Exhibition
. Sound Equipment Demo Sessions
. Panel Discussions
. Live Events
These will be happening in numerous venues around Durban. The events are planned to attract industry stakeholders, experts, artists and interests from players in all corners of KwaZulu-Natal representing the diverse music landscape that is KwaZulu-Natal.
KZN Music Imbizo offers you the chance to meet other industry experts, discuss hot new topics and exchange information and views, in a friendly and professional environment. It is also the place where business relationships are initiated, developed and maintained.

Some of the panelists and presentations that were part of 2009:
1. David Alexandra (Managing Director of Sheer Publishing).
· David was covering copyrights, publishing and royalties. He was also involved in other discussions that seek to show artists more than one way to make their money whilst still alive.
2. Neil Comfort (Mercury columnist and venue owner)
· Neil was part of the traditional media panel discussion. Asking and answering questions like ...Is the local industry using our print, community radio stations and all alternatives that
exist in the traditional media? Can we rely on the traditional media?
3. KZN Music House
· The KZN Music House did a small presentation before their Launch.
4. Durban Film Office (DFO)
· A DFO sponsored discussion on how the music industry can access the revenue streams created by the local film industry. A number of active local players were invited and tackled the issue head on.
5. Zakes Madida (Mayonie Records)
Zakes Madida is the independent label owner and an artist. He was joined by Marlijn Knol (Poppunt) and they discussed ways that you can get your own slice of the pie. Poppunt is a Flemish organisation that works with local NGOs across a number of social activities, including music.
The Imbizo also featured an exhibition from local KwaZulu-Natal companies
& organisations like SARRAL.
