SAMRO MUSIC BURSARIES
CLOSING DATE 1 March 2012

The Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) announces, via its Endowment for the National Arts, the SAMRO Music Bursaries for 2012.

These Bursaries are the most substantial awards in music study in Southern Africa. Bursaries are open to citizens of South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland.  Applicants should be registered for a music degree/ diploma at a South African University in 2012.

The following bursaries are on offer:

1. General Music Study (R10 000 each) available to students in their 1st and 2nd years

2. Music Education Bursaries (R10 000 each) available to students majoring in music education in their 3rd and 4th years

3. Composition Study (R10 000 each) available to students majoring in music composition in their 3rd, 4th and postgraduate years

4. Indigenous African Music Research (R10 000 each) for post-graduate research students at Honours, Masters or Doctoral level.

SAMRO OVERSEAS SCHOLARSHIPS COMPETITION FOR SINGERS

CLOSING DATE 30 April 2012

In addition to the above-mentioned bursaries, the SAMRO Overseas Scholarships is a competition held every year.  These Awards currently rotate in the following four-year cycle:

   2012   Instrumentalists
   2013  Keyboard Players
   2014  Composers
   2015  Singers

The Scholarships, one for Western Art music and one for Jazz/ Popular music, are for applicants who have already obtained a degree or equivalent diploma in music, or who are in their final year of such degree or equivalent diploma.  The award is to be used for post-graduate study overseas.  The value is R160 000 each plus travel allowance of up to R10 000. Regulations and application forms will be available at the beginning of February 2012.
